Narok Governor, Samuel Tunai, has warned the church against taking political sides during this period the country is heading towards the General Elections.
Tunai said the Church is a trusted institution in reconciling politicians in case of a dispute hence asked the spiritual leaders to be more prayerful so that the country can get good leaders who will spearhead development in the country.
He spoke at the William Ole Ntimama Stadium, during the National Peace Prayer Caravan led by Apostle William Kimani of Kingdom Seekers Chapel and attended by thousands of Narok residents.
“We all seek help from the church when we are in dispute. If the spiritual leaders start taking political sides, their credibility will be compromised and many people will not trust their advice,” said Tunai.
The second term Governor who is now seeking the senatorial seat, said he was ready for a smooth transition after the August 9th polls, asking the residents to vote for the most credible leaders, who will unite all the tribes living in the county.
“When I was elected into office in the year 2013, this County was divided along tribal and clans’ lines, but you can bear me witness that have brought cohesion and integration,” said Tunai.
Tunai called on the politicians who will loss during the August poll, to accept defeat and shake hands with the elected leaders for the sake of peace in the County.
“I am ready for a smooth transition. I will accept the election outcome so that there can be peace in the County after the elections,” said the Governor.
Narok County Commissioner, Isaac Masinde, welcomed the prayer caravan and asked the religious leaders to continue praying for the peace before, during and after elections.
Narok Interfaith Chairman, Bishop Dr. Peter Nakola, said the church will take a neutral position because they are the peace promoters in the country.
“Politicians are our church members and we have the role of praying for them so that God can give us the best leaders. We believe God for a peaceful transition,” said Bishop Nakola.
