Civil servants urged to sharpen their skills periodically

Makueni County Commissioner (CC) Mr. Gilbert Kitiyo has challenged civil servants especially County Departmental heads to continuously sharpen their skills so that they can offer quality services to wananchi.

Consequently, Kitiyo reminded the departmental heads that they will be held responsible for any failures in their work place, hence the need to understand their jobs well.

He said that the county heads were a product who can be called to serve in higher positions in government, thus the need for continuous training and set higher standards in their areas of jurisdiction.

“You should continuously improve yourself for you are a product. You can be called to offer services in higher positions in government,” he said during a National Government County Service Delivery Coordination Committee (NGCDCC) meeting that he chaired in his boardroom in Wote town Tuesday.

At the same time, he asked the officers to mentor their juniors and ensure they understand their work properly saying if there is any failure, ‘the buck stop with them.’

In this regard, the administrator reminded the heads of department to be at the top of things in their respective departments, adding that they should know how their customers are treated, like whether they get timely and quality services.

He said all officers should value the public in order to have a good rapport with them. “Check out whether quality services are being offered to the public, whether timely and how are they received,” advised Kitiyo.
