County bans political gathering within Kisumu CBD

The County government of Kisumu through the office of the Kisumu City Manager, Mr. Abala Wanga, has today issued a notice banning all political gatherings within the Kisumu City Central Business District (CBD)and its environs.

In a notice issued to the press on Friday, the city manager cited the need to facelift and transform Kisumu city through urban aesthetics among the concerns for the ban.

The Manager, however, noted that the drive to attain this is undermined[F1] by the ongoing political rallies held within the Kisumu Central Business District and its environs.

He cited the cases of vandalism and destruction of public property following such political gatherings among the concerns prompting the ban.

“This notice serves to restrict politicians from holding political rallies within the CBD and its environs effective immediately. This is an attempt to stop the heinous acts of destruction of public property. The city management shall designate areas for political gatherings outside the CBD,” read the notice in parts.

Wanga further warned that the city management shall apprehend and institute legal action against violators of this directive.

Previously, the County Administration had reorganized traffic flow within the Lakeside City, a move that pushed away all the public vehicles out of the CBD.

Wanga said the traffic reorganization in the area was geared towards decongesting the CBD.
