Economist Peter Munyiri has named Kamamia Murichu as his running mate in the race for the Nyeri gubernatorial seat in the upcoming general election.
While announcing his running mate on Monday, Munyiri,a former Family Bank CEO, said that if elected, his number one priority will be to ensure hospitals in Nyeri are well stocked with drugs to ease the burden of Nyeri residents.
“Today we have all agreed that my deputy governor is Kamamia Murichu. Murichu is a doctor who is well knowledgeable on matters of health and medicine. I believe he will be of great help in my administration as we try to eliminate the biggest challenge in our county, drug shortage in our health facilities,” Munyiri said.
He added; “I am sure three to four months after we ascend to power, we shall relieve our people from the unbearable costs they incur in purchasing drugs. Every health facility will be well stocked with drugs and other medical supplies.”
On his part, Murichu who is a healthcare practitioner, specializing in pharmaceuticals said they will work together with his boss in eradicating health issues affecting Nyeri residents as well as setting up industries which will be used in manufacturing different types of drugs.
“Nyeri is leading with the highest cases of non-communicable diseases like hypertension, diabetes and cancer. With my knowledge in medicine, we shall be able to eliminate all these and make Nyeri great,” Murichu said.
Munyiri will be contesting for the Nyeri gubernatorial seat on a Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party ticket after he defected from Jubilee Party after the incumbent Nyeri Senator Ephraim Maina was given a direct ticket by the Jubilee party to vie for Nyeri governorship.
The Nyeri gubernatorial race has so far attracted four aspirants including the current county boss Mutahi Kahiga who will be defending his seat on a UDA ticket. Others are Mr Gachara wa Kamanga, an independent candidate and Brad Gate Food Industries Founder Dr Thuo Mathenge who will be running on the New Democrats party ticket.
