Form 3 student suspected to have killed a brother in argument over chicken

A 25-year-old man was on Monday allegedly hacked by his brother to death with a slasher after being accused of stealing his chicken at Kusumek village within Bureti sub-county in Kericho.

Confirming the 9pm incident, Bureti sub-county police Commander, Peter Isanda said the assailant aged 16 years, raised an accusation against the deceased identified as Dennis Kipkirui that he had stolen his chicken.

He added that a commotion arose and the younger brother, a student at Kabiagek secondary school, who was armed with a slasher cut his elder brother on the neck twice.

“The assailant arrived home after school where he met his elder brother and confronted him with accusations of stealing his chicken. A commotion ensued and the deceased was cut on the neck twice both on the left and right side by his younger brother who was armed with a slasher at the time. The deceased identified as Dennis Kipkirui died on arrival at Kapkatet district hospital where he was rushed by neighbours who were attracted by the noise coming from the home,” said Isanda.

The assailant surrendered himself at Litein police station with the murder weapon where during the interrogation with police he alleged that his elder brother was in the habit of stealing his chicken.

“The father of the two sons, Mr Philip Mutai confirmed that the deceased indeed used to steal his younger brother’s chicken,” added Isanda.

The body was moved to Kapkatet County hosptital mortuary for preservation and post mortem
