Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Thursday took the Azimio La Umoja Coalition campaigns to Embu County where he beseeched residents to support Raila Odinga’s Presidential bid saying he was the best bet for the country.
Kalonzo, who was accompanied by a host of leaders including Murang’a Woman Rep Sabina Chege, said Raila had a longstanding history of fighting for justice and good governance that sets him apart from his competitors.
Speaking at various stops, the Wiper leader promised that should the coalition form the next government, it will within a 100 days address the high cost of living that was causing psychological stress to many households.
He said the majority of families were not able to keep up with the soaring cost of basic commodities and the Azimio government will prioritize essential services and reduce unnecessary expenditure to cushion Kenyans against inflation.
During a stopover Makima Ward, Kalonzo said they will also as a matter of urgency tackle the disputed 44,000-acres Mwea Settlement Scheme.
For close to 50 years, settlers occupying the land including Kamba, Kikuyus, Embu and Mbeere have tussled over ownership with occasional fights that at one point turned bloody after one person was killed and scores injured in 2018 following a botched subdivision process.
“It is unfortunate that at this time and age, we have Kenyans living as squatters in their own country,” Kalonzo remarked, saying the right to acquire and own property was a constitutional right of every Kenyan.
On her part, Murang’a women representative Sabina Chege said their desire was to form an all-inclusive government, where every Kenyan will feel being part and parcel of the government.
At the same time, she hit out at the Deputy President William Ruto saying he was not fit to lead the country over his unbecoming behaviour of public spat with the president and continuous display of anger in public.
“We want him to wait a little bit for his anger to subside and mature politically,” she said.
