Keiyo North to step up Covid-19 vaccination campaign

A total of 19,750 residents of Keiyo North sub county have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, out of the 37,459 who have so far received their first dose.

Consequently, the area medical officer of health (MOH) Dr. Agnes Maiyo is calling on residents to ensure they are fully vaccinated in the 10-day vaccination campaign, which started on Monday.

She said for those who had received the primary doses, they should come for the first booster dose followed by the second booster dose, which should be received after six months.

Speaking during a stakeholders meeting at the Iten County Referral Hospital, the medic told residents that covid-19 was still a threat, which can only be overcome through vaccination and continued observation of the covid-19 protocols.

Dr. Maiyo said the department of health has enough vaccines saying during the 10-day campaign, the health personnel will be taking the exercise to the residents.

She continued that they will also be targeting those who are yet to be vaccinated, adding that the ministry plans to start vaccinating 12-17 years of age in schools, but with the consent of their parents.

The medic said children and pregnant women will be receiving the Pfizer vaccine, which has been recommended for the groups.

Dr. Maiyo said residents who have been infected with covid-19 are eligible for vaccination four weeks after the symptoms subside, adding that residents can now be tested at the Iten county hospital free of charge.

“The covid-19 test can now be conducted locally here at Iten hospital and it only takes 5 minutes for the results to come out,” she said.
