Residents of Mwea in Embu county will now have easy access to government services, after a new sub county was created following a gazettement notice on May 31.
Speaking while commissioning the newly created Mwea Sub county, Eastern Regional Commissioner Evans Achoki said that the residents have for a long time faced the challenge of travelling from Mwea to Siakago and Kiritiri to seek for government services, but they will now get a sigh of relief following the creation of the new sub county.
“The creation of Mwea Sub county is a huge milestone because residents will not be travelling to Siakago or Kiritiri to seek government services, but will be accessing them from Karaba,” said Achoki, adding that it will also play a big role in coordination of government functions.
The Regional Commissioner also said that the new Sub county is a big boost towards fighting insecurity in the area.
“We will have ample security in this area, because we have already created a sub county security committee that will work together closely in monitoring any cases of insecurity,” he said.
Additionally, the commissioning of Mwea Sub county, will lead to job opportunities because recruitment of prison wardens, police and Kenya Defense Forces will now be done at Karaba grounds in the area.
At the same time, the new administrative unit it will also help in resolving the perennial Mwea land settlement scheme disputes, since lands services will be handled at the locality.
The Regional Commissioner urged the new Deputy County Commissioner for Mwea Sub county Jane Manene to join hands with the sub county security committee in fighting illicit brews in the area.
