Kiambu Governor Dr. James Nyoro has picked Dr. June Njambi Waweru to be his running mate as he seeks a fresh mandate in the upcoming General Elections.
The Governor who was making this announcement at the County Headquarters Monday afternoon said that he settled on Njambi, who is a health expert after a long and rigorous process.
He expressed confidence in her saying, he believes that she will be a key player in improving the health sector in Kiambu.
“Dr June Njambi is a health expert with years of experience working with private hospitals and will be instrumental in boosting the sector in Kiambu,” Nyoro who is vying for the Gubernatorial seat on a Jubilee ticket but under the Azimio la Umoja coalition said .
With the help of his running mate, the Governor mentioned that he hopes to improve medical facilities in the County by providing facilities such as Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and Computerized Tomography (CT) scan together with putting up the necessary infrastructure.
He also hopes to attract modern private hospitals which he believes will make Kiambu a center for Medical excellence in the medical sector.
Nyoro explained that the deputy Governors vacancy came about after current Deputy Governor Dr Joyce Ngugi opted to vie for the Gatundu South parliamentary seat.
He pledged to support the sitting deputy, saying that his leadership is centered on capacity building for women seeking to occupy their space in the political world.
“The number of women vying for elective seats in the county had increased, opining that there was no need to enforce the one third gender rule in politics. What we have seen in Kiambu and nationally is testament that women are strong on their own,” he said.
The newly nominated running mate, June Njambi thanked the Governor for picking her as the running mate ahead of the General Election, saying the intensity of the process that led to her nomination was not easy but appreciated and pledged to work with the Governor in executing devolved functions.
“I look forward to complementing the Governor especially in the health sector and making it a health care center for the whole country,” she said and also adding that she will also prioritize education and to support the promotion and nurturing of talents of the youth in the county.
