Matatu driver die in Narok accident

The driver of a matatu vehicle died on the spot while three passengers were seriously injured after the matatu vehicle they were traveling in was involved in a grisly road accident at Ntulele area along the Maai Mahiu- Narok highway.

According to the police report, the accident occurred last night at 9pm and involved a matatu vehicle belonging to Narok Star Sacco which had eleven passengers on board at the time of the accident.

The matatu that was traveling towards the Narok town direction rammed into the rear side of a stationary unregistered trailer killing the driver on the spot.

Narok County Police commander Kizito Ole Mutoro said the three who sustained serious injuries were rushed to Narok County Referral Hospital for treatment while the body of the deceased was taken to the same facility’s morgue.

Both the tractor and the matatu were extensively damaged and were towed to Ntulele police station awaiting inspection.

According to eyewitnesses, it was raining heavily at the time of the accident and the matatu vehicle was speeding. The accident comes a few days after four people perished along the same highway in two different accidents.

Following the accidents, police have called on motorists to be vigilant while driving along the highway so as to avoid losing lives on the road.
