Murang’a assembly lifts the 4-month-long suspension of Kanyenyaini MCA

Murang’a County Assembly has unanimously passed a motion ending the suspension of Kanyenyaini MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu who had been on suspension since June 06, 2023.

Nduta was suspended for four months following a report that was brought before the Assembly by the powers and privileges committee on an inquiry into the breach of privilege by the MCA citing that she had conducted herself in a manner that reflected adversely on the dignity and integrity of the Assembly

Upon the adoption of the report, Nduta was then suspended from the assembly and its committees for a period of four months with effect from June 06.

She was discharged as a member of the speaker’s panel and ceased to be a member of the House Business and Rules Committee and the committee on selection

The powers and privileges committee in the motion moved by MCA for Kariara ward, Mbatia Gichobe, said that Nduta was remorseful for her actions and had apologized to individual members of the Assembly.

In a meeting held on September 28, the committee reviewed her suspension and recommended that the House rescind its decision to suspend Nduta and upon the adoption of the motion lifted her suspension from the County Assembly and its committees.

However, her removal from the Speaker’s Panel, House Business and Rules Committee, and Committee on Selection remains as earlier resolved.

Nduta resumes her suspension with effect from October 5, 2023

The Assembly’s leader of majority, Francis Kibe, on his part, stated that the suspension was a fair and deserved consequence of her actions and now that the members have supported that it be lifted, Nduta can resume her duties and represent her people of Kanyenyaini Ward.
