Kajiado Governor Mr. Joseph Ole Lenku on Tuesday launched a new livestock market at Kimana trading centre in Loitoktok Sub County.
Ole Lenku said the new market will be able to hold over 2,500 livestock which include 1,500 goats and sheep, 1,000 cows among others. He also noted that they have established donkey yard for donkeys, being a new venture in Kimana.
However, he noted he has instructed the contractor to finalize and do the final touches to the market adding that from now hence forth the residents of Loitoktok and Kajiado in general can do their livestock businesses in the new market.
The county boss further pointed out that apart from livestock sales, the market will also support other support services such as sale of chemicals and food stuff such as meat among many other businesses.
He said his aim is to enable the residents of Kajiado and Loitoktok in particular have self-employment through their mainstay which is livestock, adding that in the market there will be hay yard for the livestock as well as watering points.
Ole Lenku has urged the users of the market to observe and obey guidelines and rules set for the new market by the management.
He in particular urged the users to ensure they isolate their livestock suspected to be sick in the isolation yard to avoid them mixing with others until their condition is examined.
He pointed out they appointed veterinarians who will be monitoring the livestock and their conditions as they enter the sale yard to ensure no sick animal intermingle with others.
Ole Lenku was in company of other County officials particularly from the Ministry of Agriculture.
