Vulnerable households in Samburu County to receive relief food

Over 125,000 vulnerable households in Samburu County affected by the ongoing drought are set to benefit from relief food disbursement by the county.

This is after Samburu governor Moses Lenolkulal flagged off the distribution of 5,280 bags of maize procured by the county government.

Speaking after the flagging off at the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) in Maralal town, Lenolkulal said that many households in Samburu East and Samburu North sub counties are facing hunger due to failed rains in the region.

He said that the relief food distribution will kick off immediately in Nachola ward in Samburu North and in Samburu East to compliment the national government’s cash transfer program.

“The relief food together with the various cash transfer programs run by the national government and different development partners will cushion households from the biting drought,” governor Lenolkulal said.

At the same time the governor thanked the national government and development partners notably WFP, Kenya Red cross, PACIDA, USAID Nawiri among others for their elaborate cash-transfer programmes that are assisting in cushioning vulnerable households in the county.
