Picking Karua as a running mate a boost to women aspirants, says Chege

Murang’a county woman representative, Sabina Chege has lauded ODM party leader for nominating Martha Karua as his running mate saying it will boost confidence to women vying for various elective positions.

Chege yesterday said presidential candidate of Azimio La Umoja Raila Odinga has accorded women respect and honour by naming a lady as his running mate.

The move by Raila, Chege said, has changed the perception towards women in politics saying in future the country will have a lady president.

She exuded confidence that the pair will boost the economy of Kenya if they clinch the presidency come August 9.

“The presidential candidate and his running mate are known as people who have sacrificed for this country in the past,” she said.

“Kenyans have faith in them to revive the economy and end runaway corruption which has rocked the public sector,” added Chege when distributing National Government Affirmative Action Fund bursaries at Kenol trading centre in Murang’a.

She castigated people who are against the Azimio la Umoja saying they have nothing to offer Kenyans.

“Kenyans need to wisely elect their leaders in the forthcoming general election. Let’s assess those seeking to be the next president and elect people who will ensure our resources are well protected and equitably distributed,” she further said.

Chege praised Karua explaining she had the qualities needed to be the deputy president of Kenya.

“Martha has not been connected with corruption. She served diligently in all government dockets she held in the past. During Mwai Kibaki’s era, the former Gichugu MP played a key role in service delivery where the country realized big economic growth,” stated Chege.

Yesterday, Raila picked leader of NARC Kenya Martha Karua as his running mate in the August 9 general election.

Chege who was also fronted to be a running mate by the Jubilee party said she was satisfied by the decision of the ODM leader vowing to continue drumming support for Azimio La Umoja- One Kenya Alliance.

Meanwhile, the county Woman Rep. called upon Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka to support the Alliance saying going to election alone may plunge him to political oblivion.

“My appeal to my friend and Wiper Leader Kalonzo is to come and join us. Let him drop his bid for president since he will not win and this may make many Kenyans not believe in him,” she averred.

Kalonzo opted to vie for president on his party’s ticket after he failed to be named running mate for Azimio la Umoja candidate.
