Police in Eldoret are holding two people in connection with the stoning of a vehicle belonging to a gubernatorial candidate in Uasin Gishu County.
Uasin Gishu Deputy County police commander Zacheus Ngeno said the two were arrested at Silverline hotel in Eldoret town where the alleged stoning of Zedekiah Bundotich campaign vehicle occurred Tuesday morning.
Addressing the Media on Wednesday, the deputy county commander said they have launched investigations adding they will not entertain chaos during the last few days of the campaign period towards the August 9 general election.
Mr Ngeno urged the residents of the county supporting candidates across the political divide to exercise tolerance irrespective of their party affiliations.
He dismissed fears that people were moving out of the country for fear of an outbreak of violence during the election.
“This is a cosmopolitan town and many college students are going home with their tutors to vote, this does not mean they are running away for fear of violence,” said Ngeno.
Echoing his sentiments Bundotich, alias Buzeki, who is vying for the governorship on an independent ticket condemned the incident saying his vehicle was damaged and his driver sustained some injuries.
He alleged that the incident occurred at around 8.30 am adding that he thought they had abandoned such retrogressive behaviour whose time was long gone.
Buzeki said he will not be cowed by such an unfortunate incident that is painting the county in a bad light.
He further urged his supporters to be calm as they wait for the voting day.
