Protect learners during the holiday season, parents urged

Nandi County Commissioner Herman Shambi has urged parents and guardians to monitor, protect and guide their children during the holiday season.

Shambi noted that tutors do their best to discipline students while in school and parents should emulate the same by being close to their children and talk to them to understand the hurdles they face.

“This is a short holiday and we want these children back in class. We are asking parents to control their children’s lives and guide them appropriately,” he said

Speaking at the County Commissioner’s ground during the flagging off of county schools’ team to regional games in Nanyuki, Shambi stressed that parents should not abdicate their core mandate of ensuring that they protect their children against any evil activity in the society.

He advised parents to involve the learners in what he termed as light home economic activities that do not border on child labour to keep them busy.

“Parents should take full charge and provide proper care and guidance to their children in order to bring up responsible and disciplined citizens. Let’s observe what they do to ensure they do not engage in unbecoming behaviour particularly during this electioneering period,” he said

The administrator stated that both the County and National government together with religious organisations will support and work with all parents to provide enabling environment for children to grow.

Education stakeholders present noted that it is easy for parents to discover when their children are engaging in questionable activities if they take time to talk to them.

They stated that as children of all walks of life congregate for the holiday season, there is a risk of disciplined kids having their morals corrupted and asked parents to be on the lookout.

The athletes, 20 boys and 20 girls from different school were optimistic that they will emerge winners in the competition going by the slogan ‘Nandi County is the source of Champions’
