Residents surrender illegal firearms in North Horr Constituency

Illegal firearms have been surrendered to the authorities in Bubisa area of North Horr Constituency as a security operation that started at the beginning of the month in Marsabit County intensified.

Through elders, the residents voluntarily surrendered three rifles and ammunitions to the area chief.

The Operation Rejesha Amani Marsabit commander Bernard Mbatha confirmed the recovery of the firearms adding that the cooperation the security apparatus were getting from wananchi was encouraging.

Mbatha added that the support of locals elders saw the surrender of two AK 47 and one G3 rifle, 13 rounds of ammunition and 3 magazines to the Bubisa location chief Joseph Jirm yesterday. The weapons were then taken to the Turbi police station.

The commander urged the residents of Marsabit County in possession of illicit weapons to surrender them failure to which they be subjected to legal action.

Members of the public have also been asked to continue supporting the ongoing security operation as it was for their own good and that of the country.

The operation which kicked off on May 2, 2022 together with a one month dusk to dawn curfew is aimed at getting rid of illegal weapons in Marsabit county and restore peace which has eluded the region for nearly a decade.
