Song and Dance as Siaya women celebrate the appointment of Martha Karua as Raila’s running mate

Women leaders in Siaya broke into songs and dance to celebrate the appointment of Narc- Kenya leader, Martha Wangari Karua as former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s running mate in the forthcoming general election.

Led by Siaya women representative, Dr. Christine Ombaka and county Maendeleo ya Wanawake officials, the women leaders said Karua’s appointment was proof enough that Raila Odinga appreciated the role of women in leadership.

Dr. Ombaka, who spoke at Kawino primary school in Bondo sub county said the naming of the former Gichugu MP was an indicator that the Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate was not only gender sensitive, but also appreciated the second liberation heroes who fought for the freedom and development that Kenyans were enjoying today.

She said that Martha Karua stands tall among her peers and is known to be tough against corruption.

Siaya county Maendeleo ya Wanawake officials, led by county chairperson, Patricia Apoli said that Karua’s appointment will help amass all women votes to Azimio la Umoja.

Apoli said that women leaders will work hard to ensure that nobody will remain indoors during the polling day.

Ugenya sub county Maendeleo ya Wanawake secretary, Rose Rawayo challenged Kenyan women to prove the adage that women were their own enemies wrong by rallying behind Martha Karua and other women candidates under the Azimio coalition.

Siaya county Maendeleo ya Wanawake vice chairperson, Mrs. Jane Ayalo hailed the appointment, saying that the former prime minister had made history which Kenyans will not take for granted.
