Uasin Gishu governor orders strict measures to curb illicit alcohol

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has called for strict measures to be put in place to curb the supply and sale of illicit alcohol in the county.

The Governor ordered the County Alcoholic Control Drinks Board (ADCB) to ensure that illicit alcohol imported from a neighbouring country is not sold in Uasin Gishu because some of the alcoholic products in question are said to have serious health implications on the consumer.

Speaking in Moiben during a graduation ceremony of rehabilitated alcohol and drug users, Bii also announced the formation of a task force to investigate the root cause and ways to curb alcohol and drug abuse in the county.

He advised the youth to seek counseling from elders and added that cases that have gone too far can seek professional services from qualified health providers.

Among those who graduated from the yoke of alcoholism included university students who had drowned in alcohol and drug abuse.

He added that ADCB has come up with measures aimed at preventing the brewing of illegal alcohol in Uasin Gishu, some of the measures the governor said include awareness creation and outreach services to sensitise residents on the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse, empowerment on alternative sources of income.

Bii said that the County has rehabilitated more than 120 addicts who are now productive in society.
