Four Charged for Being in Possession of Illicit Brew

Four residents of Kishaunet, Kamito and Chepareria villages in West Pokot County were on Monday charged at Kapenguria law court after being found with 80 litres of illicit liquor contrary to Alcoholic Drinks Control Act of 2010.

Appearing before Resident Magistrate, Lewis G.G. Okwengu, the accused Benson Kalikwon, Alice Lang’at, Jackson Chetan and David Mulati admitted to have been nabbed while in possession of 10, 20,30 and 20 litres of Changáa respectively.

The police nabbed the four on May 13 and May 15, 2022 at Kishaunet, Kamito and Chepareria villages.

They were fined Sh10,000, Sh20,000 and Sh30,000 depending on the quantity of the illicit liquor each possessed or serve one to three months imprisonment again using the same formula.

The magistrate ordered the Chang’aa that was produced before court as exhibit be destroyed after 14 days. The convicts were reminded the right to appeal if dissatisfied with the sentences within two weeks.
