Secondary School Deputy Principal Allegedly Murdered by Son

Police in Kisumu County are investigating the murder of Migingo Girls High School Deputy Principal Roselyn Nyawanda allegedly by her drug-abusing son Sunday evening.

Kisumu County Police Commander Alphonse Peter while confirming the incident said that the teacher’s body was found in their house at the school staff quarters.

My officers received a distress call from a villager on Sunday at around 7.30pm before rushing to the scene where they managed to apprehend the suspect.”

The son Steven Allan Nyawanda, 27, is said to have committed the heinous crime after a dispute over an unknown issue.

“He is currently in police custody at Ahero Police Station helping investigating officers,” he said.

Witnesses said after killing the mother, the suspect locked himself in their house and attempted to burn body using clothes as fuel. Police however arrived in time to break into the house and moved the partly burnt body to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.

Peter warned young people against abusing drugs and further advised them to share their challenges with the adults for appropriate action to be taken.

“After investigations, the youthful suspect will be arraigned in court and charged with murder,” Peter noted.
