Sh2.5M worth of bhang netted in Thika

Police in Makongeni, Thika have netted bhang valued at Sh2.5 million that had been packed in a public service matatu at Gwa Kamande area in Kiganjo estate.

Kiambu County Police Commander Perminus Muchangi Kioi said police acted on a tip-off from members of the public whose eyes were attracted to a strange vehicle that was parked by the road side with its doors wide open.

He said on spotting the police officers, the occupants fled from the scene leaving behind 86 kilograms of bhang that had been packed in sacks.

He said no one was arrested and they would work closely with the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) to trace the owner of the Kinathi Sacco Nissan matatu.

While appreciating the community policing that yielded to the recovery, the county police boss warned drug traffickers their days are numbered.

Cases of bhang trafficking in the county have been cause for concern as two years ago, police seized Sh23 million worth of bhang in Juja.

“We have been on high alert to weed out drug trafficking, especially bhang in the County. Those engaged in such illegal activities have no place in the county and we shall nab them,” said Muchangi.
