Detectives in Embu County are trying to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of two young men whose bodies were found dumped in River Tana in Mbeere South Sub-county.
According to area Police Commander Gregory Mutiso, the bodies of the victims aged between 25 and 30 were found stashed in gunny bags and thrown into the river at Tana Bridge along Sagana-Nairobi Highway.
Speaking on phone, Mutiso said they were informed of the incident by residents who saw two loaded sacks floating on water whose contents they suspected were human bodies.
He said the victims bore marks of strangulation around the neck and had no identification documents, and they suspected the two were killed elsewhere and their bodies dumped at the bridge.
The bodies were taken to Embu Level Five Hospital awaiting identification and autopsy.
The police boss called on people whose kin may be missing to report to Makutano Police Station to assist in the identification process.
Locals living around the area suspect the bodies were dropped at night and called on the government to deploy more police officers to carry out routine patrols in a bid to nab the culprits as it was slowly becoming a normal occurrence
